French Nation Inn Eating – The Silver Spring Farm French Restaurant in Flanders, NJ

Must Try

Not too long ago, the motion picture “Julie & Julia” has debuted on silver screens throughout the place and has reignited in lots of of us our passion for outstanding cuisine. While Julie and Julia of the film discover the enormously demanding jobs of mastering French cuisine at property, my spouse Fran and I experienced our palettes reignited for the similarly gratifying joys of eating at a good French restaurant.

But exactly where to go?

Residing 48 minutes from Midtown Manhattan and its seemingly countless inventory of classy French eating places, bistros and cafes definitely has its pros but this time we made the decision to intention our GPS West to see if we could find out a more “country inn” variety of institution to fill the invoice.

We recognize that our Garmin Novi GPS is, in actuality, a great electronic Ouija board. We contact the screen, ask a problem:

“Hermione, (that’s what we contact our GPS due to the fact she speaks with a British accent) is there a wonderful French state inn in a half tank of gas west of our property here in Maplewood, New Jersey?”

“Re-Calculating… at the base of the driveway – switch – remaining.”

And in an instantaneous [well, more like 45 minutes], we arrived in Flanders, New Jersey and Silver Spring Farm French Cafe. This charming Inn is conveniently located very near to Route 80 in close proximity to Budd Lake and the hamlet of Mount Olive.

Arriving an hour previously than our 5:00 reservations, we have been, none the significantly less, greeted by the “Grande Dame” of the Inn herself, Jacqueline Ivaldi. Standing with perfect posture at the reservations station, she smiled and reported, “Bienvenue! Welcome to Silver Spring Farm.”

“Thank you, we are an hour early and we are wanting to know if we could get an early seating.”

Feigning, seriousness she in fact walked back again into an vacant eating room peered all-around and then returned to the station. “Of course, you are in luck” she claimed, “We can squeeze you in.”

We all experienced a great chuckle and understood quickly that we had built the correct selection to stop by with Jacqueline, her husband Chef Person Ivaldi, and their son Jean-Jacques (who properly trained at the renowned Hotel School of Lausanne, Switzerland)  They have been operating The French Cafe at Silver Spring Farm due to the fact the early 1940’s. Listed here refugees from a devastated Publish WWII France could get out of their peculiar and unfamiliar New York City environs and “holiday vacation” not as well far from the metropolis for a weekend or at times extended with conviviality, bonhomie and, of study course, incomparable French delicacies.

Silver Spring Farm has a website, so I will not likely squander time right here listing their unique and distinguished menu here. I will, even so, give two parts of guidance. To start with, go there hungry. The parts are generous and irresistible and, trust me you do not want to find by yourself complete ahead of the dessert. Next, ask about off-the-menu specials. I experienced a chicken, beef, lamb sampler in a few distinctive sauces that I can re-practical experience times later by only closing my eyes and touching the idea of my tongue to my palate, yum.
